Who We Are
The India Philanthropy Alliance (IPA) is a coalition of nonprofit, philanthropic, and charitable organizations dedicated to mobilizing people and funding in the United States (and elsewhere) to foster development and alleviate poverty in India. Our journey began in late 2017 when leaders from various nonprofits based in the United States, sharing a common vision for humanitarian and developmental goals in India, began to meet informally. In October 2019, the IPA formally announced itself to the public.
Why We Came Together
Despite significant economic growth, India faces a multitude of challenges. Vast sections of the population still grapple with poverty, inadequate healthcare, and limited access to quality education. These issues are compounded by gender inequality and food insecurity. Amid these challenges, however, lie immense opportunities. India’s burgeoning youth population and entrepreneurial spirit are powerful catalysts for change. We channel these opportunities into tangible initiatives, leveraging the potential of the Indian diaspora, a community with growing influence and affluence, to contribute ideas, financial resources, and technological solutions.
Our Approach
Our approach is grounded in collective action over solitary endeavors. By sharing insights, learning from each other, and uniting our voices, we are able to create more substantial and sustainable impacts than any of us could achieve alone. The IPA aims to double the funds flowing from the U.S. to India-focused humanitarian efforts, encourage robust sharing of best practices, and foster a culture of trust and transparency among donors and stakeholders. Our ultimate goal is to create a paradigm shift in how philanthropy benefitting India is viewed and conducted.
